Faith’s School Birthday Treats

My daughter, Faith, and I came up with a practical idea for her birthday treats for her classmates. I am so lucky that my daughter is not hard to please. She is not the type of kid who asks for a big birthday party, expensive dresses or gifts. She is a lot happier when we do things together. The bond we have when we put everything together creates a happy memory in her heart.

Every parent’s goal is to raise a happy and healthy child. How a person was treated in his childhood dictates what he becomes in his adult years. The one thing which is often overlooked is actually the most important factor in the development of a child’s cognitive and affective health– TIME.

Sometimes we are guilty of mistaking spending quality time with time spent in guiding our kids with their homework, making sure that they wake up early for school and helping them review for their quizzes. We always make sure that they are “ready” for the future.

We often forget the importance of spending time interacting personally with our children. When we engage in creative activities with them, they feel important and loved. We get to know what they are really interested in, what their strengths and weaknesses are and their opinion at certain issues. That is when we get to ponder on how to guide our children and plan for activities that will allow us to develop a stronger bond with them.

Back to the project. Since it was her day, I let her decide the theme. We went to the supermarket and bookstore together and I gave her the freedom to choose the colors and the goodies that she liked.

Materials:

  1. Medium-sized transparent plastic cups
  2. Small transparent plastic cups (with cover) for the chocolate dip
  3. Ribbons
  4. Resealable plastic bags
  5. Specialty paper for the tags/cards

Goodies:

  1. Bread sticks
  2. Mallows
  3. M&M’s
  4. Candy sprinkles
  5. Marshmallows
  6. Wafer sticks

We printed young cartoon versions of Sam and Dean for the small tags. Yes. The theme she chose was Supernatural.
